Scientific Name: Prunus persica.
Occurrence
Its cultivation is restricted to the South and Southwest regions. Rio Grande do Sul is responsible for 70% of the national production of Brazil.
Harvest PeriodThe peach tree is fruitful from November to January.
HistoryThe word peach derives from the Latin “persicu malum”, witch means “Persian apple”.
It’s a fruit derived from China and it arrived in Brazil by the 16th century, brought by the Portuguese.
Curiosities
The peach is rich in fibers, especially pectin, which helps to reduce blood cholesterol. The peach must be washed right before being eaten.
