CASHEW
Scientific name: Anacardium occidentale.

The Northeast Region is where the fruit is primarily
cultivated.
Harvest Period
From August to January.
History
The cashew tree is native of the littoral region of Brazil. The cashew was spread through the country by the cashew nuts carried by the Indians.
They could feed themselves, produce juice with the fruit as well as medicine. Through the Portuguese colonizers, the cashew was taken too many countries in Africa and Asia where it was adjusted perfectly.
In India it was known as “Portuguese mango fruit”. Nowadays India accounts for 90% of cashew nuts and nut oil production worldwide.
Curiosities
The cashew has two parts: the fruit itself (which is the cashew nut, even though people may think on the contrary), and the pseudo fruit, called scientifically floral peduncle (which is the part usually sold as being the fruit).
The fruit is excellent to treat rheumatism and skin eczemas. An oil derived from the cashew nut is largely used as antiseptic, as well as to treat intestinal roundworm.
